Shy (any pronouns) is a counseling intern dedicated to supporting individuals across the lifespan, from children to older adults. They are currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Aquinas College, having already earned a master’s in forensic psychology. Shy approaches counseling from a person-centered and existential perspective, emphasizing the importance of the therapeutic relationship between client and counselor. They tailor therapeutic techniques to meet the unique needs of each individual, recognizing that every person requires different forms of support. Shy strives to create a compassionate and empathetic environment where clients feel safe to explore their inner world, fostering personal healing and growth. They are committed to walking alongside clients through their challenges, offering partnership on their journey. In addition, Shy is particularly passionate about supporting individuals navigating intense emotional distress, especially those struggling with suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Throughout their internship at The Family Therapy Place, Shy will receive supervision from Tracy Thompson, LPC.
