Shy (any pronouns) is an intern who is passionate about working with individuals across the lifespan, from children to older adults. They are a Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s student at Aquinas College and have also received their master’s in forensic psychology. They approach the therapeutic relationship from a person-centered perspective and utilize therapeutic styles depending on the needs of the client; from more structured approaches such as dialectical behavior therapy, to flowing existential or narrative therapies, each person is unique in what is the most helpful to them. They provide a safe, empathic environment where clients can feel welcome to explore their internal self to heal and grow as an individual, couple, or family. Shy looks forward to walking alongside clients in their time of need as their partner through this journey. Shy has a special interest in working with suicidal ideation and behavior, as well as gender issues and dysphoria. Shy will be under the supervision of Tracy Thompson LPC throughout their internship at The Family Therapy Place.
