“Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives.”
― Bessel A. van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma
At The Family Therapy Place we believe that whatever happened to you, however you got to where you are now is one part of the story. It has shaped the way you perceive the world and how you interact with the world. When a person has been through trauma, the body, the brain, and the way that person interacts with the world changes. There is hope! Research has shown us that our brains can change and grow within the context of safe and healthy relationships. Here, we believe that trauma is part of the story but is not the end of the story. Trauma tells you that it is unsafe to trust yourself and others, our approach is to come along side you and support you as you learn to notice and use your voice again. You are here. You survived whatever happened to you and can gain the confidence and tools to learn to thrive. Now is your time, we are only a phone call away!
